Feeling stuck while transitioning from .NET to Java Full Stack

I recently attended two interviews for Java Full Stack Developer roles.

Both interviews followed almost the same pattern. The interviewer noticed that I have **1 year of experience in .NET/C#**, asked me a few basic Java and Spring Boot questions, and then ended the interview by saying, *"We'll get back to you."* After that... complete silence. No rejection, no feedback, nothing.

I've been learning Java, Spring Boot, SQL, Hibernate, REST APIs, and building projects to transition into the Java ecosystem, but it feels like my previous .NET experience is becoming a barrier rather than an advantage.

Has anyone here successfully switched from .NET to Java?

* How did you convince interviewers to give you a chance? * Should I keep applying to Java roles, or should I first gain more experience in .NET and switch later? * Is there anything I can do to improve my chances of getting past this initial screening?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's made a similar career transition or has experience hiring developers.

Thanks!

1 YOE .NET Developer Looking to Transition to Java/Spring Boot – Advice Needed

Hi everyone,

I currently have around 1 year of professional experience working with C#, .NET, React, and REST APIs. Most of my work has been on maintaining and developing web applications using the Microsoft stack.

Recently, I've become interested in Java backend development, especially Spring Boot, because I see many opportunities in the Java ecosystem and want to build a long-term career in backend development.

I'm currently learning:

Core Java

Java Collections Framework

Java 8 Features (Streams, Lambda, Optional)

Spring Boot

Spring Data JPA & Hibernate

REST APIs

Microservices basics

My concerns are:

How difficult is it to transition from .NET to Java?

Which .NET concepts map directly to Java/Spring Boot?

Should I apply for Java jobs while still learning, or wait until I'm comfortable with Spring Boot?

How do recruiters view candidates who have professional .NET experience but are switching to Java?

What projects would you recommend to demonstrate Java skills on my resume and GitHub?

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has successfully moved from .NET to Java or who interviews Java developers.

Thanks!
