Who else loves 70th editions?

It’s a good week for my 70th anniversary collection. Finally got my hands on the collectors box set, and even found a 70th edition 5 pack.

Even though I’m biased toward Audi wagon castings, the Nismo might be the winner. Great details, livery, and gloss finish.

The GMC wrecker is a favorite from childhood. This is my first new version of the casting revisiting Matchbox as an adult.

Working Rigs Storage Cases?

Has anyone found a case for working rigs trucks similar to the Hobby Lobby cases that most of use for loose cars? Some of them fit in the double-wide slots of the HL cases, but some of the rigs are too tall. I would love to find a comparable storage solution for the big bois.

Viper GTS Custom

I recently acquired this old Viper GTS casting (casting date of 1996) in an old 20 pack. I was pretty excited to get it, but after opening I noticed how strange the wheel fitment was (picture 2). It's a pretty large casting to begin with, and it looked like it had a lift kit on it (especially in the rear). I had a few sets of these really large wheels (12.6mm) wheels lying around, and just by eyeballing I decided they would probably be a decent fit, or at least better than how it was out of the package. While it was open, I decided to give it a custom interior (photo 3), and the clear "glass" of the Viper really makes it worth painting up the inside. In the end, the rear wheels look great, but the fronts are a little wide for the car. The side profile looks nice, but it looks pretty hilarious head-on. Either way, I think it is an improvement. I held up a set of my usual 10.5/11mm wheels to the Viper and they looked ridiculously small against the size of the casting and wheel gap. I wish I had a set of staggered wheels for it, but the only staggered set I had got used for an old Hot Wheels Corvette casting from 1999. The staggered set gave the Vette a bit of a dragster vibe, which I think works. Even with the goofy fitment, the 2-piece rim/wheel, chrome, and tire lettering really transform this goofy old casting.
