I decided to check on Rupert and Turtle in the middle of the night, and they're having some kind of staff meeting. What do you think they're talking about?
I kind of feel like they were talking about me. Maybe plotting.
I have a hay monster. His name is Rupert.
He loves being in hay. Big piles of it. Sometimes he burrows. Sometimes he makes a nest. He always popcorns when it's fresh hay time. Always.
I love my little hay monster.
In order to earn their pea snacks, Rupert and Turtle must allow pets. They can be a little dramatic about it sometimes
Rupert (white) has always been pretty tame. Maybe because I only had him for the first few weeks so I carried him around nonstop.
Turtle, on the other hand, is semi-feral. I think he tolerates pets because he just hates to see his brother get a snack without him.
Rupert had just woken up from a nap. What do you think was going through his little brain right after?
Omg, why does Turtle look so cute and INNOCENT in his cuddle cup? And that little yawn...
Times like these I forget he tries to lunge at my throat on the reg.
Guess who got a brand new twig tunnel! (I had to tell the pet store to get me the widest one because "my guinea pig is fat.") Rupert is so happy
I normally pick the tunnel in person so I can pick a good one, but I've been sick so I put in an online order. My instructions were to get me the widest one because "my guinea pig is fat." Looks like they picked a good one!
When you forget to buy lettuce, a pig may go for your jugular...or maybe Turtle was just excited for the replacement? We will never know but I survived to live another day...
I got lettuce for tomorrow so I don't have to worry about Turtle trying to finish the job.
When you can't sleep so you spy on your potatoes and find them melting and (shockingly) close to each other. Rupert + Turtle 💙
Maybe their fighting is all an act, and they get along when they think I'm not looking.
Rupert is sliding into FoF at the very last second
He was so busy bickering with Turtle and pulling all the hay out of his boxes that it slipped his mind until just now.
When I can't sleep, I spy on my potatoes. Watching Rupert just makes me insanely happy. Look how adorable he is!
When I first adopted him (he and his guinea pig family had been dumped at the local shelter), he was so tiny and scared.
He would hide all day, but at night, he would come out and throw parties. He didn't know I had a cam on him and could see all his shenanigans. I loved watching him then, and I still love it now.
Breaking news: Astronomers have located a new black hole that swallows any veggie that gets near it. They have named it Rupert
Turtle never sleeps out in the open but last night I spied on them and caught him looking quite comfy. Pic 2 is from above
It just melted my heart. I love seeing them feel safe.
Turtle has always been a bit less relaxed, but here lately he's been a real couch potato.
Sped up vid showing why I will always advocate for a big pile of hay (and, yes, that is Turtle in the background moving his bowl so he can eat in bed)
My little hay monster just loves being in hay. It's his happy place. As soon as I open the box to give them fresh hay, he starts popcorning like crazy. How could I deny him that joy?
Does anyone else's pig drag their bowl over to their hidey so they can eat in bed?
Since I've had them, over a year, I feed Rupert first in his bowl on one side of the cage. Turtle runs to his own bowl on the opposite side and waits for his kibble.
No issues.
But starting this past week, when I go to feed them, Turtle's bowl has been right next to the hidey he's been using instead of its usual place. Every time.
I got curious as to why his bowl is suddenly not where it's supposed to be, so I checked my cams, and he's dragging it over so he can lounge and eat!
Does anyone else's pig do this?
(In this clip, he had already moved it a little and then got distracted I guess. This is from when he went to finish the job.)
Rupert and Turtle have turned bickering into a past time
These two piglets love to bicker loudly all day. They each get in a hidey, face each other, and then argue about life, I guess. This is just a short clip. They do this for loooong stretches of time.
I love listening to them.
They're next to my TV so sometimes, if I'm listening to music or watching a movie, they get LOUD. If I turn down the volume, they get quiet like they were talking about me and don't want me to hear. Rude little potatoes.
Does anyone else have a pair that bickers all day?
Rupert, the hay monster, is waiting patiently for his bell pepper snack
Just look at Rupert's fat, squishy face
He makes me so happy.
I was having a sad sack day, and I thought, "What would make me feel better?" And the answer was snack time with Rupert. (He got pea snacks, and I got crackers.)
He got a little grumpy because he got too many kisses and not enough pea snacks. But I had to remind him that love is a two way street.
Rupert is one with the hay
He may be a bird. Just look at that nest.
