Built a free deal hunter for online and GTA local deals

Hey folks,

I’ve been working on a hobby project called SnagDeals.ca that tracks deals around the GTA and online.

I started building it after noticing a few similar deal sites moving more features behind paywalls. My goal is to keep the core deal-finding experience free: search, filters, sorting, price history, and actually finding a good deal.

I’m hosting the whole thing from my homelab, so I don’t have a big hosting bill pushing me toward locking basic features behind a subscription.

Full disclosure: some outbound links go through a redirect, and I may earn a small commission if someone buys through one. That does not affect how deals are ranked, scored, or recommended.

A few things I’ve built so far:

  1. Free search, filters, and sorting
  2. Occasion guides, like Canada Day deals right now
  3. Local AI deal scoring to help push weak/junky deals lower
  4. Price history so you can see whether something is actually a good price
  5. Lowest-price locator for items where pricing varies by store location

Next things I’m thinking about:

  1. Letting users suggest merchants to add
  2. Improving the homepage and overall visuals
  3. Adding more Canadian retailers

I’d really appreciate feedback from this community. What feels useful, what feels unnecessary, and which retailers would you want added next?
