Hi. Have you ever noticed something is changing on the subreddit? Does it seem dead? Dying? Different?
Well it can really feel like any of these, but...why?
I'm nMrPokemonGuy, but you can call me Pokey. (Not cakes voice actor). I'll be telling you all how the subreddit has changed over the years.
When I first joined, it was Christmas morning. I was getting bored of reddit, just trying to find a subreddit about one of my interests.
Then, I found it. This very subreddit. For around the first month, I just lurked. I would look through the sub every once in a while, for no more than around an hour.
I made my first post on February 24th, 2025. Just predicting whether or not TPOT 16 would come out then. Wow, I was right. I got these funny things called upvotes. Cool!
There were some people around who I saw where a bit popular EX: u/NoLocal7705 , u/FireparrotYOY , u/AnalyticalTomato , You may know them. Some might post funny things, they may be good artists, and just might analyze certain characters so well that it's impressive they did that.
Now after then, I looked through this subreddit as much as possible every day. I tried to spend a lot of time here.
I made some nice friends EX: u/Swimming_Tennis6092 , u/CollegeCommercial988 , u/Away-Situation6093 . , met new people, laughed with them, complimented their work, and had fun.
One day... I found out about "the leaderboards." They counted your upvotes on comments and posts. This really motivated me to contribute to the subreddit. I posted absolutely everything I found funny, interesting, or whatever.
I like how we all kind of raced together on the leaderboards. Even though more content that may have not been too high effort was being cranked out, it gave me more to look forward to.
Something also felt different about this community. We all felt really tight-knit, and we all appreciated each other. Not a lot of communities I've been in are like that.
In summer of 2025, I was really having a blast. I made my own little voting series, and I really enjoyed hearing responses.
Then in September is when things really started to calm down a bit. Going on the subreddit started to feel repetitive. Same old art, same old questions, same old posts even.
Then in November, things really started to seem dull a bit. I think this is when I started to turn to things like group chats with everyone instead of just browsing the subreddit.
And really from this year onward... Something has felt different about this subreddit. A lot of people I used to hang with I barely see them around, at least on reddit.
But why? Why did we start to drift apart?
The leaderboards were crucial for motivating people to post. But why were they removed? Well many people started to get stressed trying to be active around here just because of these placements. But if others feel like that, just to let you know, things on reddit do not define you. Many people do amazing things on this subreddit and aren't even consistently in let's say the top 10 of posters. The leaderboards still technically exist, but it's mostly just decides if you get your posting or commenting tag or not. After the leaderboards ceased, I started to kind of throw reddit to the side and focus on just hanging out with some users on other platforms, like discord. Should they come back? It's up to the moderators to decide. Personally I think as long as we establish boundaries, the leaderboards can be fun for everyone.
A lot of art has been posted on the sub recently. I love it! But...what else is there to say? And that's the problem. When people post art, if it's not like a comic with something funny or a meme or something like that, there isn't much you can say about it. Commenting on every art post feels like spamming sometimes. Sometimes all I have to say is "oh I like your art, you're a good artist!" And it's nice to support artists like that, but when there's so many, it feels like that's all I say when I browse the subreddit. I think discussion is the best way for me to give comments that add a lot.
Remember an "analysis?" Oh those fun things were *we* (ok probably just me) barely had the attention span to read but were still really impressed by them so we would just say they were amazing anyways? First, what is an analysis? / Well it's when you break apart interactions of something. You can analyze characters, episodes, and events. These are usually like presentations that are just bfdi themed. I even made two!* (*Or technically 3, but that one is meta) But overtime analysis' started to get less and less upvotes overtime. I still appreciate them it's just a less chance I'll even see them or even be able to read through the very long ones. Overtime I think these started to die out 1. because it takes long to read them, and 2. They are definitely difficult to make, but you can't tell as much as a drawing that lets say took over a day to make, and you can visually see all the strokes and details.
The reddit chats are terrible and limited. Only a couple emojis, constantly lag, and you can't send voice messages. Me and some used to use reddit chats. When we used these chats, we also spent a lot a time on reddit! It's like taking a break from the stress of making a post. But later, we got tired of using the reddit chats, so we used discord instead. Since reddit was also dying in the background, discord felt way more appealing. Online chats are generally just really fun. Since some of us moved to a whole new app, we started drifting apart from this one. If we want to tone discord down, the subreddit just generally needs to improve, so we'll be motivated to use reddit opposed to discord.
Reddit is dying, but I can't exactly put my finger on why. It could be because other social media is generally getting more popular like YouTube and TikTok. Even when I go on other subreddits, it's like I can tell there are less people there if you know I what I mean. Because reddit isn't giving the same rushes of dopamine as it was around a year ago, I've just found something else. If reddit should recover, it should probably revamp it's chats. Or maybe now it's summer break for other soon, we'll all start using this app again.
A lot of the "trends" on this subreddit just feel very repetitive and sometimes annoying. Or I'm just not interested in them in general, like this new character board thing. At least some of the trends though annoying, were funny to make posts about, and though repetitive, were not too draining to repeatedly see on the subreddit. Remember Sam's writing? Annoying, but had some charm. Remember Think Before you Speak? Repetitive, but people made so many nice interpretations of the meme. Now... A trend happening seems exhausting because you know how repetitive it will be.
Sometime ago, it seemed like you were familiar with every user here. Now, it's seems like those people are all gone. With the banning of many posts related to users due to being off topic, it kind of just feels like a daily chore going on the sub instead going to see your online friends. How can this be fixed? Well I think we need more meta posts (or posts relating to the subreddit) we don't need a lot of them, but appreciating other people here means a lot! I think more interactive posts, voting boards or alignment charts are needed as well, because others can discuss opinions, what should go where, and then it's also fun seeing them be completed!
So what's the fix for this? First, I think leaderboards really push all of us to our highest (in this post, we're looking at the quote where NoLocal (SuperSprity) talks about how the leaderboards lifted a weight off his shoulders). They serve as good motivation, we get to be high on the leaderboards, and we get to constantly put out content. Then, we need more discussion posts. An analysis can also start some discussion, but I think I've kind of just drifted away from constantly picking apart BFDI at the moment, so I prefer questions, discussions, and memes. Then last of all... Reddit not only needs to improve as well, but we have to remember... it exists. Reddit is such a different platform from other socials. It can be fun... we just need others to be with us!
That's the end of this rant, or warning, or announcement or whatever...
Thanks to my good friends u/Swimming_Tennis6092 and u/Auggs-The-Loser-Fan for both reviewing and drawing the cover for my post! (Auggs;Left, Swimming;Right)

What happened?
It feels like back from June-August 2025 the times just felt different.
Even last year during this time...
the sub still felt different. In a good way
I used to be all silly, and do interesting things in my posts,
But now I just find whatever on the ground and post it.
Oh and remember leaderboards?
Those were fun...
(Totally not because I was #2 poster in July)
But yeah...
I have no idea what to bring to the table half the time on this sub anymore.
I think life is just different now in general ig
