I live in a smallish historic town in GA. Lots of city parks and creeks. I have asked the city about metal detecting rules And they seem okay with it (just no digging in parks)
What general rules and tips can you offer to help me feel good or confident in going out, also what’s some lessons learned? I want to be a good steward of the hobby. I’m excited to get out, I just really don’t know where to start.

I found this in a creek here in Middle Ga known for Native American activity. I think it’s a possible tool? My thumb fits perfectly along the side and it’s very sharp, maybe used to scraping hide? Any help would be appreciated. This is my first find hunting for items.
