Sometimes you want/need Linux to do a job, but you dont want to leave the comfort of Windows. Windows Subsystem For Linux lets you run a full blown virtualised Linux install within Windows so you can penguin whilst you office. Unlike a VM, it runs entirely from the command line prompt and you can access the main hard drive of Windows like it was a native mount in Linux.
...... And apparently it exists for Windows 9x too now.
