How do I loosen string tension on Floyd Rose Jackson?
Hey yall, so 1 month ago I bought a Jackson SL2MG in Lambo Orange. One of the things I loved about it is that even though it was tuned to E standard, the strings were very bendy and comfortable to stretch and play on.
So anyways about a week ago I bought a SL2DX in Lemon Ice, hoping to get the same feeling but it plays a lot more stiff. At the same tuning (E standard) it feels super stiff to bend notes and to pull up on the whammy with pinch harmonics.
I compared spring orientation, gauge, action, everything was identical but the SL2DX was still tighter on E standard.
I’m here to ask you all for advice, what can I do to make the string tension less tight, while still keeping it at E standard? I love shredding and jamming on E, and covering songs, but with how tight the strings feel, it’s kinda killing the fun for me. Any advice is welcome, thank you!
Things I’ve tried:
- Changing strings from the factory set it came with, they are 9-42, Ernie balls.
- Changing the spring orientation from 3 in a V shape, to 3 straight.
- Adjusting action height.
