Birth Planets - major update

The first update for Birth Planets is here! What's new:

New Astrology Features

  • City input: type or GPS your birth city — bundled database of 31,000+ cities, works offline
  • Automatic time zone + daylight saving lookup: you don't need to know your UTC offset anymore
  • Ascendant: rising sign (Ascendant) calculation, allows more precise readings
  • Astrological houses: full astrological houses, calculated from your actual birth data
  • The four chart angles: Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant, IC drawn right on the table
  • At-a-glance summary: your Big Three (Sun/Moon/Rising) + elemental balance

Interaction

  • Table highlights: Hover over any planet to see its sign and house highlighted on the table
  • Spin the whole chart with a pinch-drag (with momentum/coast)
  • Handles to reposition the table in your space
  • Ascendant and houses cards: Tap any house number or the Ascendant for a full breakdown card
  • Planet cards now show how planet + sign + house combine, not just raw data

Polish

  • New intro animation as the chart builds itself in front of you
  • Fixed a bunch of loading/start-up lag
  • Fixed several bugs

Let me know your thoughts!

Prevent clicks on objects that are being occluded by another mesh

Is there a way to prevent unwanted clicks in interactable objects that are behind a mesh?

I noticed that even though this object that has an interactable component and physics collider is sitting behind another mesh, it still can be clicked.

The solution I found was to add a physics collider with an interactable component to the mesh that acts as the occluder, but I was wondering if there's a right way of fixing this.

Introducing Seven Wonders

Introducing Seven Wonders

Learn more about the Seven Wonders of the World, right in your own space.

I revisited an old project and completely reimagined it, bringing it to Spectacles.

Pinch and drag to rotate planet Earth and see the location of each wonder around the globe. It supports inertial rotation, which makes the interaction feel more dynamic. Hover over a wonder and it scales up slightly; click it to see it up close and get more info, like its name, location, and the date it was built.

The wonders sit on a pedestal by default, like you're in a museum, but you can toggle that off and have them sit on your room's floor instead. They can also be rotated freely.

You can return to Earth view anytime to explore more, or cycle through the wonders using the previous and next arrows.

I spent a lot of time on the textures, UVs and materials, trying to make them look as realistic as possible even on low-poly models. All of them were painted in Substance Painter.

I'm really happy with the final result, let me know your thoughts!
