Let me first say I have been a fan of Lauren since she was on American Idol in 2011. She is usually very kind and talented and I think she deserves a bigger career than she’s gotten. She’s also been through a lot of loss in her family - stepdad died of cancer, dad was an alcoholic who recently died by suicide. She also a few years ago was in a brief relationship with the comedian John Crist. He ended up being outed for being sexually explicit with fans and was apparently a big cheater with multiple women who all thought he was just dating them (until Lauren went public with him.) Lauren is now married to a man named Cameron and even has a one year old daughter. Yet she has lately repeatedly spoken on her cheating ex in a way that would make anyone question why, if she’s so happy and so much “better off”.
She has been making Instagram reels, captions, and TikToks talking about her “cheating ex” jncluding one today that said “Dumping these pics like I did my ex.” During her CMA fest set this past weekend, she called John Crist out (without naming him) into the mic. Said "A few years ago I found out through other girls who were messaging me on Instagram that my boyfriend was also their boyfriend so I wrote this next song about that. I'm about to sing it with little extra fire because I just saw him in the crowd during the last set. I think he was smart enough not to stick around for mine." And he posted on his Instagram a photo of him at the previous set with his fiancé. She also said “I have a lot of exes. I only have one husband, for now.” (It was a joke but still weird given the vibe of it all.)
This is probably not a big deal, but I don’t understand making residual angry (even if they are rightful!) feelings towards your ex your entire schtick when you are also claiming you’re very happily married. It feels like “this is the guy I really wanted and I am still so mad he lied to me. I got married to prove I was fine without him.”
This is weird, it’s not the correct opinion he thinks it is. He just really likes to drink (I’ve never not seen him with a Coors can and a cigarette).
