[MF] I Fell So Hard It Crumbled Buildings
The world rumbled, causing me to tumble towards my porches railing. I swayed over causing my body to fall to the rocky surface below. THUD. I smacked into the ground. In a daze, I looked up seeing a crumbled structure in front of me.
The brick building that was once a mediocre three floor apartment complex was now in ruin. The structure was caved in, as if the building had sat for hundreds of years. The once red bricks were now bleached by the sun. Interestingly only my door had survived the shake, even though it was barely attached.
I began to gasp for air, the shock from colliding with the ground began to wear off. My chest screamed with pain as the rest of me ached. I couldn’t explain to myself how I’d managed to fall over the railing. What would have happened to me if I hadn’t?
I began to slow my breathing, my heart still throbbing. I managed to sit myself up, which I know medical professionals recommend not doing. But what am I supposed to do in this situation.
I looked around, the other buildings in the complex showed the same demeanor as the one I used to call home. Was this a dream? Maybe a smacked my head really hard. Did I have a concusión?
The grass around me was longer and more lushes, as if it hasn’t been cut for centuries. There was a deer drinking from a now full river. The stream banked across the edge of my apartment complex and out of sight. The vegetation covered the surroundings in a thick coat of green. The wild flowers slowly swayed in the wind producing vibrant red, yellow and white poke dot across the blanket of green.
As I rose to my feet, I began to look around some more.
“Hello?” I called out.
The once ignorant deer raised its head to look at me. Locking eyes with my own, it was almost as if I and the deer had come to a mutual understanding. On some weirdly deeper level. I shook it off.
“HELLO!” I shouted.
The abrupt noise caused the deer to run away. I brushed off my clothes and made my way towards the stairs to my apartment. Each of the 15 old cracked concrete slabs that led to the second floor, displayed a foot print of a well traveled road. The Romans may have had the best concrete in history but concrete is concrete. Just like styrofoam. I wonder if there is styrofoam now that everything is all old.
I cracked open the ancient rickety door, my apartment was mostly the same. Photographs hanging on the wall, some slightly ajar or missing. A banner against the other wall, different then the one I had hung in the same spot. The square room had almost the exact same layout. Except a lot of things were completely gone. The table, the chairs, pretty much everything not on the walls. The sofa, weirdly remained put. I made my way through the hallway that led to the bedrooms.
My roommate was asleep inside when whatever this is happened. I turned my head toward the direction of the door to his room. It was gone, I rushed forwards and arrived at his bed. He was gone, is he dead? What happened to him? What happened to everything around me?
