My almost solution to my twisted steering tube.

Posted about the twist a couple weeks ago. After thinking and thinking this is the best I could come up with outside of some jig that would take me 2 days to design and build. Twist was roughly 3/4 out and now it is 3/8 out, not sure I could’ve gotten much more out of it without 20 more straps and hard points to grab. Looking back, I should’ve put the larger tow strap on the bottom left instead of the orange one, as it’s getting pulled against the most. One of these days I will just take it to a frame shop, they can probably get it done without any disassembly.

Well I was nearly done putting it together before I noticed something concerning.

Noticed something was off with the steering, then stsrted staring at the whole body. The laser shows the truth, somehow this body is twisted, even though it seems like it has never been crashed, the leg shield is too straight. Unsure how that is even possible. I found one or two other posts online of this same thing, and the only answer I found (that I can do at home) is remove the steering tube etc, and mount the body flat and firm to a level surface. Then find a long tube about the same thickness and torque it over, slowly and gently. If there are any better ideas please do comment. I’d rather not disassemble the front end but this feels necessary, even though I rode it this way before.

I did this once before 10 years ago, and all I remember is that it took me maybe 3 hours and I only barely got it, and definitely by force and not cleanly. This scooter has the autolube oil tank so the arm isnt able to pivot very low, and the oil tank doesnt allow the tank to be leaned forward much while inserting. There are only a couple videos about it, none are very good and all of them do it with ease. My arm seems to be nowhere near clearing the curve under the seat, especially since they stick out a half inch or more once installed. It is a metal/welded oil tank so it’s not necessarily easily removed, but I could cut it off assuming running mixed gas doesn’t affect the auto lube not getting oil. Getting this tank into place is basically the last step in making sure it runs after redoing the timing. Any and all advice is welcomed.
