I baci me to u razmišljanje.

Misljenja, saveti?

What even is journalism?

I have landed an internship at a local weekly magazine, im even being payed hah, but honestly i have no idea what am i doing.

I was given a task to write about press freedom, and i did write around 2500 characters, it was nice, but honestly, i could have just gave chatgpt to write it, give it to my editor and it would not matter much.

When i research a topic, i am expected to find some sources, talk to them, record it or write notes about what they say, and when i am finished, i just put what they said in sentence and finish it with a "..., he says", or "...,said the \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ for our magazine". It looks like there is a lot of emty walk and dumb work that anyone can do.

It feels like all of this does not require much skill, it can be done by literraly anyone, or even a machine or some AI. All that matters is that the papers/magazine are owned by a normal person who does not want to brainwash people and voila, there's journalism that everyone needs!

If anyone can help me understand this vocation, i would really appreciate it

Are journalists who deal with a certain topic qualified to give their opinion on that matter in the same way an academic would be?

For example, a journalist who didnt graduate with a BA in a field (history, law, physics), but followed the field for years, even decades. Can his opinion hold the same weight as the opinion of someone who was schooled in that field and engages in it profesionally?

What im actually trying to ask is wether an experienced journalist can be considered a public intelectual, someone who is entitled to give his opinion and be asked for advice in a field.

Hi everyone, long story short, i am a political science student who somehow just landed an internship at a high quality (if i may say so) weekly magazine in my country.

I have no experience in journalism, besides my studies i am a musician and a writer.

The magazine has its focus on investigative/analitical journalism (thats how the main editor described it to me), there is a lot of politics and economics (which i like) but there is a lot of culture (which i also like)

Like i said, i have NEVER had a job in this field, i think i am really lucky for getting this chance, they say i will be payed for the internship and if i show my self in a good light, i may even get a real job, something that i REALLY need.

So anything that comes to your mind that you would like to tell me, how to start, how to research, how to write a journalistic article, how to develop workflow, tactics, ANYTHING literally, tell me! For now i got the assingment of translating an article and researching a theme the main editor gave me.

Any help is welcome!
