The Gargoyle and 182
I have this theory about 182 and his connection to the Gargoyle that I wanted to share
because I haven’t seen anyone talk about this possibility. Let me know what you guys think.
From the little we’ve seen of 182’s past, it seems like the girl from his flashbacks (image 1) was the only person he really had. She was probably his sister, or maybe just a childhood friend, but either way they seemed very close. And based on their clothing, it looks like they grew up together as lab experiments.
As they got older I think they were trained to become soldiers and serve the Headquarters, since they were Fog-born children and apparently had more potential than ordinary people.
Then in chapter 31 (image 2) we see 182 wearing his soldier uniform and crying desperately. There’s blood on his clothes, but he doesn’t appear to be injured himself. That made me wonder if the blood actually belonged to the girl. Maybe R.R killed her, which would explain why 182 hates them so much and desperately wanted to escape.
Now here’s the crazy part of the theory:
What if R.R didn’t simply kill her, but turned her into the monster that guards the entrance and prevents everyone from leaving the prison?
If you look closely (image 3) the Gargoyle statue actually has some strangely human features. It kinda looks feminine, with long white lashes and eyes that resemble those of a girl. It even has human-like hands.
Something else that caught my attention is that in chapter 31 (image 5) 182 sits in front of the Gargoyle and says that he wanted to show her his sweet potato. But I ask myself why would he want to show something like that to a statue? This is unless the Gargoyle wasn’t just some statue to him, but something significant to him.
Then I remembered the flashback from their childhood (image 6) The girl tells 182 that if she ever gets out of that place, she wants to raise an animal, specifically a puppy. That memory has a huge emotional impact on 182 because even in the present it affects him to the point he ends up treating a sweet potato like a pet and even asks Hound whether a sweet potato is an animal.
Which makes me wonder if the reason he wanted to show the Gargoyle his “animal” is because he still sees her as the girl from his childhood.
And this is kind of sad, because the Gargoyle itself has a four legged animal-like shape. In a twisted way, it’s almost as if she became the thing she once dreamed of raising.
I’ve seen some people on TikTok say that the Gargoyle is actually 182’s mother because of the prayer he recites “Mother from the sky”. Personally, I’m not completely convinced. We don’t still know who 182’s mother is. I feel like that prayer might have been something all the children were taught when they were young so he recites it out of desperation.
But the part that stands out to me is that he’s asking her to “come back” (image 7) That line feels really personal. Almost like he’s talking to someone he lost rather than praying to some random deity.
What do you guys think? Do you have other similar theories?
