Teachers Day Class Suspension

I am grateful to the LGUs who thought of giving teachers the time off on Teachers Day. Thank you for thinking of the teachers and making an effort of providing them with the rest they need.

However, announcing the suspension of classes a day before Monday can be disruptive. Teachers already set deadlines and activities for the rest of the grading period/semester, and an interruption like this means adjustments, an additional burden to the teachers.

The Philippines already has a good number of class interruptions due to typhoons, calamities, and holidays, so here are some other ways the LGUs/school administrators can show appreciation to teachers: financial or year-round leave incentives, lighter non-teaching workload, provision of functional and useful instructional materials and classroom equipment, and respect for their dignity in the teaching field.

I am not criticizing or complaining. I am just merely stating a sentiment and offering a suggestion.

Anyhow, mabuhay ang mga gurong Pilipino!

on balance and fairness on air

There's this one radio personality that just reeks of his political bias amidst their station's tagline of fairness and balance.

In one of the broadcasts, he started with an intro that some big politicians are stating their disinterest in running for a higher public office, but later on run anyway. He then asks the question why they do it. That if they could lie about their desire to run in a high position, they could also lie when they are already in office.

This radio personality has a clear political inclination, but forgets that his bias also did the same tactic - announcing he won't run for presidency, but did it anyway - and even won.

This just got me thinking. Their radio station carries taglines that promote balance and fairness, but some statements on air do not sit well with their supposed journalistic values. Or am I just overanalyzing things? Can journalists still relay their personal political inclinations on air?
