[OC] Measuring Nepotism in the Music Industry
Source: Wikipedia; Billboard
Tools: Pandas, Excel, Datawrapper
With the recent popularity of a song by the daughter of the founder of Groupon (i.e., "Boston" by Stella Lefty), I became curious about nepotism in the music industry. To use a very broad definition, I said you likely benefited from nepotism, or some advantage, if your parent had a Wikipedia page. I then looked up every artist who charted a song on the year-end Billboard Hot 100 between 1960 and today to find how often artists scoring hits met this definition. I have a longer write-up here.
