Did Sirius actually die?
I've been rereading Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix for the nth time. But something about the battle in the Ministry of Magic struck me. So the scene is—
Bellatrix and Sirius had been duelling in front of the Veil of Death. Sirius lost his focus for a moment, and Bellatrix seized that chance to curse him. Now, in the book, it is explicitly written that a red spark hit Sirius in the chest. He fell gracefully through the veil and disappeared.
We know for a fact that only Avada Kedavra is the killing curse, and it is associated with green light.
So, if there wasn't any veil to fall through, would Sirius, albeit extremely injured, be alive?
Sorry in advance if this idea has already been discussed.
Update : Sorry, everyone, I meant to ask whether Sirius died because of the veil or the curse.
