It’s 2026. Nurses should be better at computers.

Considering most paperwork is going digital, with much important information on your intranet, SharePoint, notes etc, surely it’s in your best interest to know the basics of a computer?

We’ve all met that person who uses a single finger to slowly type something on their keyboard. They always end up finishing late because they can’t get a grasp of how to use a computer.

But today… I’m a community nurse and I went to see a patient in a nursing home. I asked the nurse to send a photo of a patients pressure ulcer to me. But she said she didn’t know how to use email? Like come on lol

AI GP receptionists

Have any other nurses had difficulties getting in touch with certain GP practices due to using AI receptionists? I can’t believe this is a thing personally. Some of my patients are livid as they are constantly being obstructed by robots. Some sound so convincing that you’d think they were a human if they didn’t tell you that they were AI. Want to speak to a human? Not possible apparently! They often presume you’re a patient trying to get in touch with a doctor and will offer a callback.

Hypothetically, if a community nurse lost their driving licence (say from anything to health, alcohol, too many points etc) what would happen?

Would they lose their job? Or be redeployed to an area where they don’t need their car? (Presuming cycling in the community isn’t an option due to distance and city to city).

‘Practices can’t commit to a pay rise for nurses that they can’t afford’

Dr Sarah Jacques, co-GP lead for the Doctors’ Association UK (DAUK), highlights that while GP partners highly value their nursing teams and are committed to retaining them, financial pressures facing practices and the exclusion of many practice nurses from Agenda for Change makes the issue of pay a significant challenge. This article comes as part of our General practice nurse pay: A salary survey of the profession 2026 report.

Reached my goal of 600 elo on chess. Took me 2 months. The grind from 400-500 was the hardest. 😅

I’m fed up of the recruitment freeze and how I’m stuck in a job I want to leave

It’s shit for everyone, especially the unemployed nurses, don’t get me wrong. I’m just fed up of my job though and I want a new nurse job but there aren’t any in my trust or they are hyper competitive.
