Same track, faster and slower edit?
Hey everyone,
I’m working on some techno tracks and some of them seem to work well at very different tempos - for example around 130/135 BPM, but also slowed down to something like 110/115 BPM. For context, the sound is somewhat mystical, tribal and hypnotic.
I’m considering releasing two versions of the same track: one at the original/faster tempo and one slower version, both properly exported and mastered.
Having a dedicated slower version could be useful both for listening and for DJs who play in lower-BPM/deeper contexts. And it would also prevent DJs to rely too heavily on master tempo/key lock, which can affect the transients with such large tempo stretch, or on the other hand to drastically change the pitch.
A) Do you think this makes sense, or would it feel unnecessary/confusing to release two BPM versions of the same track?
B) Would you label them as something like “Original Mix” and “Slow Mix / Dub Mix / N. BPM Version”?
Thank you!
EDIT: A comment made me think about the technical side too, especially decay times. Any other tips for a proper slower version?
