Question about leaving bark on

I split and sealed my first black locust staves recently. After doing some reading I saw that people recommend leaving the bark on and sealing the ends. Some of the bark was removed during splitting and it concerns me.

Should I spot seal those areas, leave them be, or do something different?

I am selling my Pig Iron Forge chef's knife. I believe he called it a K-tip nakiri. The blade is W2 steel. The handle is some kind of wood burl and trustone. It is thin behind the edge and very hard. The knife has never been sharpened since he did the initial edge and does need touched up. There is a streak in the patina from cleaning it before taking pics. The knife comes in a padded zipper case.

Used but good condition.
