Might be fired from my job soon - how bad is the market in NYC at the moment?
I've struggling at work for a year or so due to burnout and managing 2 surgeries for my medical transition. My manager told me that I have been bottom 20% of senior engineers and told me to improve.
I work at Bloomberg, C++ backend that deals with high throughput data. I have been working for 6 years. I would say that technically I am around mid level engineer.
At first, I didn't worry too much since I thought Bloomberg and 6 yrs of experience would allow me to get a job quickly but from people here, even FAANG folks seem to have hard time getting a job.
If I get fired, how screwed am I? I am also thinking of taking sabbetical since doing 3 surgeries in a year is taking a mental toll on me.
