More women on the pod?

I already know what response this is going to get so please don’t bother with misogynistic comments, but it would be interesting to hear some more history about women on the podcast. I know that there is more info available about men throughout history, and men have generally (though not always) been the ones at the head of the “decision making” in history - especially in terms of national/political leadership up to modern day. However, just for the sake of balance it would be nice to get a bit more women on, in my opinion. They are half the population after all, and have created every single human being in the history of the world!

SQE is sadistic?

Hi all, I would appreciate people’s thoughts on this. SQE is supposed to be the most accessible and helpful route to help people qualify as a solicitor, however the sheer AMOUNT of knowledge needed to pass the SQE1 exams is genuinely insane.

Even doing my undergrad law degree I only needed to know criminal law for 1 exam, tort law for 1 exam etc. they were on different days and you could revise specifically for each exam before them, and once you finished the exam you could forget it and move onto the next.

For SQE1, not only do we have to know literally EVERYTHING from a core law degree verbatim, memorised and all at the same time, but we also need to know EVERYTHING about practical modules too - which is A LOT MORE knowledge than the black letter law modules. The fact that we need to have all of this knowledge completely memorised, closed book, all to be used within the space of a week over 2 days of exams is insane to me. Then we need to retain ALL OF THAT KNOWLEDGE until the SQE2 exams!!

Not to mention the costs of the course and study materials, additional mock exams, juggling studying with work hours, and after all of this people often still have to obtain a training contract as the 2y QWE!!

I really do think it’s crazy how much information we need to memorise for these exams, far far more than I have ever needed to learn for any other exam in my life - including both of my law degrees.

I’m very nervous for these exams (SQE1 July), but more than that it actually makes me quite angry that we are expected to know all this at once, making it much harder than any other qualification route in the UK that I am aware of, and I don’t know about other people’s course providers but BPP has been absolutely rubbish for me personally.

Rant over. I’d welcome other thoughts. Good luck to us all sitting exams soon!

BPP SQE1 mocks

Hi all, what’s everyone’s experiences with the BPP mocks? Anyone who has sat SQE1 before, would you say the questions are harder/easier than the real life exam questions?

I’ve just completed the BPP “mini mocks” and I did surprisingly well on them, so much so that I’m very surprised as I’m not currently feeling that confident on my knowledge for the exams. I am planning on doing many more mocks - including the BPP full mocks - in the coming days, but was just wondering if I’m giving myself false hope and they’re actually dumbed down versions of the real exams.

Thanks in advance!
