Injection Advice: IM vs SubQ

I recently had some issues getting my needles from my pharmacy (they kept giving me wrong ones). I thought they finally gave me correct ones, but my doctor gave a prescription for 1" injecting needles instead of 5/8". I do subcutaneous injections, and 1" is for intramuscular.

The last two shots, I've been using these needles and just not going in all the way. But last week when I did this, I guess I went maybe too deep or something, and my thigh muscle did a weird big twitch thing that hurt really bad. It's got me worried for my shot this week. I'm lost on what to do. I've been debating just switching to IM shots for a bit, until I get new needles, but I know IM is absorbed more quickly than SubQ, and I'm worried about health issues with that. I also don't know how to do an IM shot, and the idea of going into my muscle icks me out a bit. If I could, I'd ask my doctor to rewrite the prescription for shorter needles, but I can't pick anything up from a pharmacy for a bit, so that won't work for a while. I'm almost a year on T (next month, yay!!) and so far I've been really good at injecting myself, but for the first time since those first shots, I'm procrastinating and really nervous to inject.

So what do I do? Should I switch to IM shots for the time being, or should I keep doing SubQ and not sticking the needle all the way in? If I stay with SubQ, how do I make sure I don't accidentally go into my muscle like I did last time? Thanks.
