Reasonable to ask for steroids in advance for travel? (Trending towards flare)

Hi all,

I’ve been in remission for 3 years, but have been having more symptoms in the last few months. It is continuing to escalate but it’s manageable without steroids right now. I’m having a colonoscopy & pillcam 6/24. My concern is that I’m leaving the country for 3 weeks the next evening (I know it’s tight! It had to be this way). I’m worried that 1. my symptoms will continue to escalate into a full flare by that time and 2. they might find inflammation on the scope that warrants a course of steroids but I’ll be unable to pick them up in such a quick turnaround. I want to be able to enjoy my trip with minimal stomach trouble…Would it be reasonable to explain this to my doctor and request a course of steroids that I’d save for my trip abroad? I wouldn’t want to take them before my scope so it doesn’t mask anything. Just wondering if this is something they might accommodate before I take up our time calling. Thanks so much!!

What kinds of goals do ESN high schoolers have/activities they do?

Hi all, I’m going to be jumping from lower elementary self contained extensive support needs (mod/severe) to a non public school for extensive support needs, teaching high schoolers. I feel way out of my depth! Looking around my current classroom and wondering, what will ESN high schoolers actually be learning, what materials will they be using, how should they spend any free choice time, what kinds of fun activities are developmentally appropriate, will the social/communication skills we work on be very different, what kinds of IEP goals will they be working on…not to mention transition planning! I know I’ll be able to learn from my new team but it’s stressing me out a bit not knowing even a little what our routine should look like and what I will be teaching. Does anyone have any resources or could describe the differences (or similarities) between what these age groups are learning? Thanks so much ☺️

Hi everyone,

I’m about to finish my 2nd year teaching lower elementary self-contained. Next year, I’m going to be moving to a non public school (school only for students with extensive support needs) most likely teaching high schoolers. I’m excited because this school is very well respected in our area and I’ll have a lot of support (as will my students). But I’m kind of feeling like, since I’ve never taught high school, I don’t even know what I don’t know? Do you have any recommended resources like books, podcasts, blogs, etc or areas of the job that I should research/learn about? I really want to set off on the right foot ☺️ I wish I could observe in high school classrooms but it’s probably not in the cards… Thank you!
