Man slapped in the face while woman watches.

I overheard the woman and man in black shirt arguing and then this other guy shows up out of nowhere and starts yelling with the man. Then a car drives by calling for the woman to be hit.

Police showed up within minutes.

There are too many damn unruly dogs in this city

First of all, I have dogs. They are not unruly and I trained them.

Second of all, this city has way too many unruly dogs. In my unit there’s so many dog owners who will act like my bull terrier is dangerous and scary…then their little yappy chihuahua will be the one that actually lunges and barks at my dog, which scares her bc my dog gets scared easily . I had the same happen with a German shepherd that lunged at my small bull terrier, which again scared my poor little pig.

That being said, the amount of untrained and undisciplined dogs in Portland who live in apartments and walk around is concerning.

Is this people who got dogs during COVID and are stuck with them?

Or is there an epidemic of shitty dog owners?

Like why are you letting your dog jump on me as I’m trying to cross the street?

No I don’t want to pet your oily and SMELLY golden retriever.

Someone’s dog shat in my apartment elevator lobby and others pee on the rugs all the time.

Also I could argue most people should NOT own dogs if you’re not willing to put hours and hours into training, discipline, correction of bad behaviors and proper handling.

I am DONE with the anti homeless people in this thread

A user went on an extremely bigoted and anti homeless rant in this thread without offering solutions. He/she wants others to offer solutions instead and is using their apartment garage being broken into as an excuse to push classist and anti homeless rhetoric. They live in my
apt building based on the garage story. The building is generally secure and no one has bothered me at all here.

“I am not sorry for this post. I do not care how many posts have already been made.” Ok?

“This is a beautiful city that has been RUINED by the unstable, unsanitary, dangerous, anti-homeless population. Someone who is sleeping in their car and working is not the problem; STOP acting like this is what is going on.”

It was ruined by yuppies who moved in, raised rent and housing costs and kept pushing the lower income out of stable and affordable housing, mixed landlords who kept raising rent like Geoffrey Rice.

“I pay a lot of money to live in an apartment downtown. And not only can I barely sleep because of the groups of "unhoused” screaming and fighting outside, but recently an unstable man broke into my apartment complex.”

This person complaining about my apartment building which is my building too. The objects were returned and the police attested the man. The apartment we share is safe and no one has ever bothered anymore here. The homeless that walk around our building haven’t bothered anyone. If you bother them, then that’s your fault.

This person also never complains about the loud tourists on Congress st every weekend, the loud college students every weekend as well and over all the constant ruckus from young whipper snappers who scream and carry on.

Why is it this user only targets the homeless / unhoused? Is it because this user lives in a fancy downtown apartment and they think they’re better than the poor?

“And the police do freaking nothing.”

The police are not going to take a homeless man minding his own business outside your fancy apartment and move him if he’s not doing anything.

“I cannot go for a morning walk without passing piles of garbage and needles” then clean it up?.

“I cannot take the bus or wait at the bus station because of the violent and unpredictable people shooting drugs in broad daylight”

I have never seen it the way OP is making it out to be and I live in the city and walk around it daily.

“Parking my car in an expensive car garage is now causing me anxiety as it looks like the homeless are starting to camp outside of the garage and wander in there looking at cars. “ POOR BABY!!

“I do not feel safe without pepper spray, a knife, and my phone just walking around. One of the most beautiful cities in the country looks disgusting.” This feels over exaggerated.

“People defend these insane people stating that they are human beings and just down on their luck. NO. NO. NO. People down on their luck are not dangerous, violent, using drugs, and committing crimes.”

No you’re limping all homeless people together and being extremely classist.

“The homeless crisis here is absolutely insane and we cannot tolerate it anymore. I am angry and you should be too. Let's stop acting like this is normal.”

Ok then help the homeless and stop voting Republican.

“IF YOU ARE DEFENDING THIS, YOU ARE ALSO THE PROBLEM. Don't bother commenting.”

No one is defending it Mr Fancy Apartment neighbor. Yes we’re neighbors btw. You’re making generalized sweeping statements without addressing the root causes which are complex.

“Post solutions, ideas, what we can do, who we can talk to, and your stories here.”

So why don’t you?

“Save this city! If we let this happen, it will get worse. Let's be optimistic and at least try.”

Don’t be a cry baby

Tear down Trelawny scaffolding

The owner of the Trelawny building has to be the city’s most hated man.

And why isn’t the city having him take it down?

City needs to reduce duration of scaffolding thru legislation like NYC did and issue fines for buildings to keep up empty scaffolding for over 1 year. Fines should be $1,000 a day.

It’s an eye sore, blocks sunlight for apartments and also feels like a cruel statement the owner is making, bc he couldn’t rip off his tenants

Also: tell the city Public Works you’re fed up and the scaffolding is posing safety risks for people especially disabled:

This is by Telling Room, a literary arts education organization

In case anyone was wondering what “tell room” meant. It’s by Telling Room, a literary arts education organization for youth in Portland. Please don’t mind my background car music (it’s Brazilian) . I don’t know how to mute the video

How much do you think rent will be in this new apartment complex in Gardiner?

I’m sure it won’t be over $2000 a month right for studio units? Right??

My colleges subreddit was hijacked what appears to be by a real estate investor or just a scammer or karma farmer. They banned me when I asked what they were doing by spamming so many real estate posts.

My college is set to shut down late 2026 so I’ve noticed an uptick in real estate people curious about the land.

What do I do about reporting the page as being hacked?

Or is there anything I can do?

It’s a tiny community and it’s one online space that’s been taken over now limiting community members .

The media, national or local (like Channel 22) always published the most negative clickbait articles about Hampshire. They never once saw the college as its own. Negative stories such as “ugliest college” or “school lays off staff” when other schools do it all the time never helped the school and I believe that contributed to its failures.

The school worked for me and many other alums. It wasn’t the college that could get a rich alum community like Amherst to keep it going decades later. It wasn’t like UMass where they just hand out diplomas for the bare minimum (no offense UMass alum but it’s not as rigorous as Hampshire).

If Hampshire were given a bigger pedestal for people to see and a chance, it would’ve survived .
