Is it possible to melt a 24k heirloom ring into 18k wedding bands? Local jeweler says no

I have a 12 gram 24k ring that was passed down to the men in my family and I want to melt it down to make two thinner 18k wedding bands using the same gold for sentimental value.

I went to a local jeweler who said it’s not possible and I’d need to sell them my heirloom ring as scrap and they’ll make me two new 18k rings. I’d be giving them over $1.5k in scrap gold (12 gram ring) and would still have to pay $2k on top of that, not to mention the loss of sentimental value from an heirloom piece.

Rings would be (ideally) 3mm size 8 and 2mm size 4, and $3.5k seems really expensive for plain bands whose final collective weight will be like 6 grams. How does 12g 24k + $2k = 6g 18k?

The internet claims it’s possible to melt down old gold into new rings but the local jeweler said that’s old fashioned and not true anymore.

Do I need to find a new jeweler or is this what I have to work with?

18k engraved band from jeweler is banana yellow and doesn’t match ring (or any other 18k jewelry)

I worked with a jeweler for a hand-engraved wedding band. When I first placed the order I asked in writing about the gold color matching my other gold jewelry and explained my color preference and never received a response so I may be out of luck.

I received the ring and it is BANANA yellow while everything else I own in 18k is more orange-toned including a 20g chain, my e-ring, nose ring, and 4 other 18k rings so I assumed it was the standard color.

There is a huge color difference highly visible not just to me but to others. It’s not wearable with any of my jewelry.

Can I do anything to alter the color or am I just out $1k and I have to remake it with a different jeweler? It is beautifully done and must have taken a lot of labor but it is just not wearable.

Is this bezel too thin - does ring need to be remade?

This ring needs to be extremely sturdy for daily wear and tear (I never take my rings off) but the bezel looks too thin which made the basket arms(?) too thin - will this be ok for lifetime use/is it repairable if worn down or do I pay another $1.5k to have the whole ring remade with a thicker bezel?

18k size 4.75 1ct green lab sapphire* (~5x7mm), not sure about bezel width but band is 2.7mm x 2.2mm pre polish

Jeweler says this ring is sturdy and not a problem. they will only give me a small discount to make a new ring since it would be “my design preference” since the ring is strong enough as it is. I am worried the thin 18k will bend or wear down. Looking for a second opinion

*edited because I thought it was emerald

How many times can a stone be swapped in same ring setting? 18k 8 prong 7mm stone

I swapped out the original stone in this brand new ring setting for a green moissanite. After a month, I realized I prefer white stones with rose gold.

Can I replace the green moissanite with the same size diamond (7mm) or will the prongs not be able to handle a second swap?

Setting: cast 18k rose gold solitaire with cathedral size 5.5; no other work except prior stone swap

Context: I was turned away from 3 local jewelers for the first stone replacement and the one who finally agreed said stone swapping is really damaging and risky and charged me $200 in case he needed to retip any prong damage (ended up not getting damaged and it was simple switch). He’s very skilled but a language barrier means it’s easier to ask here vs travel to him in person to show what I want to do

Petition for more 18k rose gold posts! I adore the rich, peachy color. From right to left in first photo: 18k vintage RG with 0.25ct brown diamond; 14k vintage YG band; 18k RG with light green 6.5mm moissanite (setting from kuololit + stone from Etsy); 18k vintage RG diamond “H” initial ring
