Most "Halal" food is not Halal
Bismillah hir Rahman ar Rahim
This is a comment on most halal food and restaurants that are there on the open consumer market in USA. It's just coming from my own completely pedestrian, amateur observation, my experience comes from being Muslim and eating at a lot of restaurants.
In the area where I live at, in Southern California there is 1 certified Halal slaughterhouse where the standards are high enough that I would trust their criterion for Halal certified meat. I have visited many other so-called "Halal" establishments and judging from the low level of hygeine and the minimal education level of the immigrants working there it's blatatly obvious that the standard of humane slaughter is questionable and the cleanliness level is not only below industry standards, it's just a joke because you know there's no certification or inspection required or expected. Seperately from my integrity as a practicing Muslim who wants to support minority owned businesses, I would avoid 95% of all of these establishments simply
to avoid getting sick. The point being, versus the Kosher standard or Organic certified food, the Halal label practically functions as the opposite of what it's supposed to mean, effectively it's a label that says "avoid this product becuase it's substandard."
Thanks for reading my Yelp-tier thoughts.
