"[Insert Fed Species] are Boring" and the Appeal of Fanon

I'd like to preface this all by saying this isn't about anything within NoP itself or the book's writing; instead, I'm giving reasonings as to why the series' "boring" species are found interesting outside of "aww cute space speep" or "oooo sexy fembird."

I love our favorite lizards and get where this YEAR-OLD comment is coming from. But I don't think fed species are boring; in fact, I think they're interesting because of those "monoculture and reinforced herd mentality" elements or at least have the potential to be.

Each species used to have its own culture, but 98% of it has either been retooled to fit or was replaced by the federation's standards. Now the general public is given three options. Revert to how they once were without having to conform, pick up the pieces and build something entirely new out of the ashes, or double down. This internal conflict can and has lead to the creation of many beloved stories and characters.

As for variety, we know what some of the species used to be like due to the archives one-shot, and many blanks can be filled in using the lore book made by u/SavingsSyllabub7788. One of the best things about the NOP community is that ideas in one fic can show up and be expanded upon in another. It's the fanfic equivalent of a game that's open source. You don't even need the sources above, just make something up! It's fan fiction; nobody is going to stop you!

How Talking to Kris Could Work

Here's how a talk with Kris could work.
You are given three to five questions with eight words given to start a sentence; there doesn't have to be seven options after the first word; it's just an example.

It's an idea that was floating in my head for a while but seeing that in Chapter 5 (very minor and vague) spoilers >! Toby was willing to write 8 different responses and give you 4 dialogue options in one box,!< I now think this is something they could possibly add to Chapter 6 or 7.

A Tail of Harmony | (My First Story)

THIS STORY IS NOT RELATED TO NATURE OF HARMONY

Thank you to u/SpacePaladin15 for the universe and thanks to this fandom for giving me the courage to write something. Also thanks to u/SavingsSyllabub7788 and u/mechakid for allowing me to reference their stories.

Being disabled is a pain in the ass.

Sure, advancements have been made to make living with disabilities much more manageable, but none of them could have taken Venlil Prime's increased gravity into account.

I, like many others of my kind, have been displaced after the battle of earth. Even if the worst of it is over and reconstruction is moving swiftly, there's not really a home to return to. Just about every day has been the same for me.

Wake up, eat, ignore my aching back, play piano, make dinner with my exchange program partner, eat, then head to bed, then repeat the process ad infinitum.

Now I don't mind this; the constant routine is nice, and Elilah is the sweetest person I know, Venlil or otherwise... but I miss Earth. I miss my town. I miss being able to go places by myself. I miss not having to wear a back brace, I miss going to the park and performing for people on stage. God, do I miss the stage.

I thought I'd never be able to do anything like that again, especially after the "Rock n' Roll Riot" fiasco back in February. When that happened, it was all over the news as if the satanic panic from centuries past had hitched a ride on one of our shuttles for a round 2.

I figured suggesting anything like an outdoor piano recital would get you laughed out of the room at best or the exterminators knocking on your door at worst...

Yet here I am. Back on stage in front of a small crowd of Venlil and human bystanders, I wondered how I could ever be able to repay Elilah for this. I knew being the niece of a magister had its perks, but I never thought she'd fight for me to this extent.

In place of that thought another one formed: "With everything that's happened over the past few months, is the audience as nervous as I am?" "Will this change anything?" "Do I even deserve this?"

For a moment I felt paralyzed but with a smile from the most important member of the audience, the one who made this all possible, my mind is cleared; I have enough courage to straighten my posture and speak into the microphone.

"Back on earth, my music teacher had a saying: 'Music is able to soothe the soul when words can't.' Today, we'll see if that holds true." I placed a finger on one of the keys and as if on instinct, I began to perform for the crowd.

God did I miss the stage.
