extra days off because my car wouldn’t start

Being car free is actually my dream. The infrastructure where I live sucks and I work 45 miles away from home so it’s not a reality for me. My car wouldn’t start on Sunday so I was off Monday-Wednesday.

I joined the group at Seek No Further cidery in Granville on Monday for mountain bike Mondays. Biked there from my house in Heath. I explored a lot of back roads over my days off and was glad the rain held out for most of that time.

I love this section of bike path at a local park on my way to the roads I wanted to ride. This bridge was just an old railroad bridge when I was in high school. Now it’s rail trail that goes above this little section of path. Sadly, the tree in photo 3 collapsed last year. I always loved that tree and even saw a southern flying squirrel in it while out one night photographing spiders. The last slide is from February 2019 to show the tree before it fell.

Lots of riding this week while my car was in the shop

My go-to party pace explorer

Primos Mono
Whisky Scully 820mm bars
Swift Zeitgeist
Swift Moxie
Donut Sack Dunk Tank
Ergon GS1
Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt V2
Lezyne Power Cage (x2)
PDW Light Nug
NiteRider Swift 450
Race Face Chester
Brooks B17
Bagman QR Sport bag support
Carradice Audax Lightweight
Safety Pizza
AssSavers Win Wing2

Sometimes I run the Zeitgeist on the rear and a Wholegrain Cycles JACK rack on the front, occasionally with a Wald 137 short basket zip tied to it. I wanted to use the JACK as a bag support for the Zeitgeist but can’t seem to get it setup in a way that doesn’t put too much stress on the cables with both the bag and the rack, so I’m forced to choose between them.

2011 Redline D440

Always wanted one. Picked this up for $150. I changed the grips, pedals, saddle, and brake levers. I actually put shimano MT200 disc brakes on it but went back to rim brakes. I’ll probably go with Deore rim brakes or BB7s/Spykes eventually. I wanted to keep this bike simple and cable actuated. I’d like to put an OMM Elkhorn rack on it at some point. Yesterday I scored a Carradice Lightweight Audax and Bagman QR support for $50! I think this will be sweet. I’ve already put a lot of miles on it.

My next project

Got it torn down last night. Going to get tires and bottom bracket after work today.

Bought these from the original owner today. He got them new for him and his wife. They aren’t as clean as I thought they’d be from the Facebook marketplace photo but they should still be fun project bikes. Unfortunately, they’re a little small for me.
