Am I bad at my job, or am I wearing too many hats?

I can never tell. My title is 'Project Manager' but my deliverables include so many other things that it often feels like I spend more time doing the project than actually managing the project.

I'm managing a huge project within a small team, I'm doing almost all the comms for that project and the graphic design, as well as writing up case studies and developing relationships with new supporters of the project. I've been in the role for three years and I can never get my head around the different gear changes.

It doesn't help that every year I'm also expected to basically completely overhaul the project's framework and theory of change. My manager also used to manage the project and fights me on every detail so things take forever to get over the line.

I'm looking at my deliverables for August, and there's some I've hardly touched.

Can anyone relate? How do you cope?

(And yes: I am applying for jobs elsewhere)

Help with research for late 18th century pirate historical fantasy

My friend and I are co-writing a historical dark fantasy about undead pirates in 18th century Bahamas, set just after the decline of the Nassau pirate republic and pirate Golden Age but just before / during the start of American Revolutionary Wars (circa 1750). We want the action to be informed by real anxieties, struggles and philosophies of the time period.

Our protagonist is a young British colonial who has come to Nassau in its 1730s-70s boom. He will have been aboard a ship to get here, but is not a mariner necessarily. He's a tutor for the wealthier colonials in the region.

First of all, does this make sense? How would he get there? Why would he come:?

And second of all, how would he have been educated if he came from Great Britain as essentially a middle class servant? What should I read and research to understand his worldview?
