I posted a while ago about building a fishing app for us - it's now available for testing on Android!

Screenshots

I am building "KY State ProBaiter," an app that consolidates information from the USGS, USACE, NWS, and TVA to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding water levels, temps, and fishing conditions for every site in the state with available information.

This app is and will be free. There are and will be no ads. There is and will be no data collection. I don't and will not want anything but to provide my fellow Kentuckians with free, accurate, as up-to-date as possible information.

To sign up as a tester:

  1. Visit https://groups.google.com/g/soupforktest

  2. Sign-in with your Google account if you aren't already signed-in.

  3. Tap "Join Group" (should take the place of the Sign In button).

  4. You should see a list of messages, like an email inbox - click the one that says "Join the KY State ProBaiter test!"

  5. Follow the link inside to the Google Play Store listing.

Feel free to share the group link and tell your friends and family to sign up! We need a dozen testers for 2 weeks before it can actually be listed in the Store for all to see - once we get the testers, I will begin regular updates to add more sites and features.

If you've tried fishing apps and found them lacking, PLEASE sign up as a tester, and let me know which features you'd like to see! Let's build the best damn water app there is!!

Thank you for your time, and I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the day :)

And because the stupid Reddit AI is jumping my ass before I can submit this post, I just want to clarify that this is not a solicitation of services; this is an informational post about an upcoming, teacher-approved, educational application. And yes I'm serious, and yes it was a pain to get that certification. Ok thanks!

I'm building a statewide fishing/water conditions app for fun - any public interest?

Gallery

I decided recently that my father needed an app that was easy to use, and would give him relevant info about his favorite fishing spots without all the bullshit. Once I finished his, I decided to expand it to cover more than just 6 lakes, and have now gathered the resources to provide coverage to over 40 in-state lakes, rivers, and streams, as well as a few points on the borders.

It's sorted by region, based on a random library map I found because I didn't want the argument of who lives where - and let it be known that I don't necessarily agree with 100% of the assigned regions myself.

Anyway, it shows you the water level where available, based on usgs/usws data, air temp, barometric pressure and trend, does some math based on lunar cycles and sun activity along with local weather conditions and determines if the fishing is good or bad (your mileage may vary)... There's historical charts for water levels. Certain local-to-me areas have historical flood data, so if it floods it'll tell you "Current flood conditions are 3ft higher than the flood of 1936" or whatever.

I was building this for me, but started wondering if anyone else might be interested?

Da Woyms

Had to do a substrate change on my worm enclosure due to a mold issue - accidentally left a bit of cereal exposed to air and it went fuzzy REAL quick.

I removed the moldy surface material, pulled the worms out carefully and placed them into a temporary container, and then basically nuked the substrate with alcohol before baking it dry because I'm lazy and it's easier than getting new stuff.

I transplanted a bit of substrate/frass from my roach enclosure to kick off the microbiome, and mixed a couple tablespoons of coffee grounds into the soil.

Anyways, this is a timelapse of the ~9 minutes after I put em back in.

Preggo Hissbuge Monchrun after midnight

I put a camera inside my roach enclosure (sadly it turns out that it didn't like humidity much at all..) to see what these little girls and guy get into at night, and caught one of the larger pregnant females making a run to the cat food bowl and stopping by the peanut butter on the way back into the hide.

I'm going to try a different camera setup at some point this weekend, and maybe I'll set up a livestream or something 🤷🏻‍♂️

When I get home from work, I always come through the door speaking like an old haggy witch, "Hello, creatures. I have come home to youuuu... What are you doing, creatures? EHHHhhhh HEHEHEHEHEEWOOOWARBLGARBLBUHBUHBUHBUHGABBYDABBY CREATURES! Go potty?"

Anyways, the roaches love it.
