Hi all, long time lurker first time poster!

I finally took the leap and went for my sisterlocs install

1-4: finished install
5: 1 week progress
6: last day with my loose natural hair (4c, fine strands, medium density)

I’ve always gravitated towards some variation of braids and got more confident in styling my natural hair in the last 5 years. However it did feel like I was always planning my hair around my life and was getting tired of the admin. I got married 3 months ago and had planned to go ahead with it after the wedding after about 2-3 years of deliberation.

I did a consultation a month before my install (N. London). I had done a lot of research and knew I wanted to start with interlocking (I like the uniformity and knew I would continue interlocking for my reties). I was happy to take my loctitian’s recommendation on sisterlocs vs microlocs. We agreed on a sisterloc grid (she is certified and offers both services). My install took 16 hours over 2 days which I mainly spent working. I started on about 8 inches of hair and had a trim the week before to even out the shape.

I was worried about looking scalpy - my exact words were ‘I’m worried I’ll look like an egg’ - but I couldn’t have been more pleased! Posting for anyone else who is ready to take the leap but nervous about the first few months. I’ve never felt so free and beautiful. I go to the gym without worrying I’ll sweat out my blowout. I whip off my bonnet in the morning and I’m ready to go. Honestly I can’t believe I waited so long!
