36 with a BS in occupational safety and a stack of training and certifications. I started taking on more environmental compliance and management roles and responsibilities over the last few years.
I initially started out in corrections, which sucks, don't work in corrections.
I was recently promoted into the sole Environmental Manager position for a mid-tier defense contractor. My background is largely occupational safety but with a healthy dose of chemical and hazardous waste management. I'm to create an environmental compliance program from scratch, I'm aware it's a very heavy lift. I'll be opening a position in a few months for an environmental specialist. It'll be program writing, performing gap anaylsis, training development, assisting with permits and plans, and helping correct all the dumb mistakes I anticipate finding at our sites.

Looking through this sub, it seems like a lot of folks are looking for field work. This role involves regular travel to sites across the country for site familiarization, audits, and gap analysis, but that would be to hangars and production facilities. But a good chunk of the job will be desk work. Pay would likely be in the $60k-85k based on experience.
