Cant decide between Fedora and openSUSE

I’ve tried both, but I just can’t make up my mind. Maybe I can find some inspiration here to help me decide.
Fedora runs absolutely great. It has a large community, so there’s a solution, guide, or discussion for almost every problem or topic. On the other hand, since I live in the EU, I’d also like to reduce my dependence on US-based software where possible. IBM’s ownership of Red Hat has also led to a few decisions that I wasn’t particularly happy with.
Then there’s openSUSE, another major distribution with its roots in the EU. I like it as well, and there are several things I actually prefer over Fedora, such as the built-in snapshot functionality (although Fedora 45 is apparently getting something similar). However, I’ve found that openSUSE sometimes requires a bit more effort because things don’t always work quite as smoothly or conveniently. You can really tell that there’s some excellent and innovative engineering behind it, but at the same time, there are areas where the underlying technology feels anything but modern.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that the online community seems considerably smaller. Quite often I couldn’t find solutions to problems, and the SUSE documentation is sometimes outdated or even missing altogether. By comparison, I’ve been very happy with Fedora’s documentation.
One more criticism is that I’ve occasionally missed packages in the openSUSE repositories that were readily available in Fedora’s official repositories.
What do you all think? Linux simply has too many great distributions to choose from.

is there any development?

Hi,

I find openSUSE really interesting, and I think it's great that it's backed by a European, or rather German, company. I've spent the last two weeks exploring openSUSE, and I've reached the point where I'm wondering: is anything still happening here?

YaST has barely changed in the last 20 years and is now being phased out, only to be replaced by an external tool (Cockpit) and Myrlyn, which also looks like it's straight out of the Stone Age. On top of that, it caused more problems than it solved for me, and I don't find it particularly intuitive either.

With Fedora, you constantly hear about new developments and ongoing work. With openSUSE, I hardly come across any news at all. I also find the documentation somewhat lacking. For example, I couldn't even find information on how to install virt-manager and enable its services, especially since those services—and many other packages and dependencies—often have different names.

The community also seems rather small, doesn't it?

Is anything significant still happening in the project?

Have a great weekend, everyone!
