[CHAT] Loops and Threads aida is vile

What the title says.

I haven't stitched on 14-ct black in a long time so I was raiding my stash for materials and this is all I had on hand, back from when I first started out and thought it would be a great idea to buy a bunch of packages of it. I must've been trying to hit the Michael's free shipping minimum or something.

Anyway, I'm using it for a small project and figured it wouldn't be that bad...but yuck!! I now remember all the reasons I quit using it. So scratchy, so stiff, shreds the floss, attracts all the cat hair in the house, feels gross in my hand, edges catch on everything. The only good thing is it's so stiff that it doesn't even fray. I would donate the rest of my supply but that feels like setting someone else up, under the guise of generosity, for as much annoyance as I'm currently experiencing.

I even tried pre-washing another roll to see if that helped and it did NOT, now I just have wrinkly stiff gross scratchy aida that needs to be ironed. Michael's needs to go sit in time out for this nonsense.

Vintage needlepoint books!

Reorganizing my bookshelf today and thought I'd share these books! Apart from the encyclopedia on the bottom which I bought, these all came from my mom and would be from the late 70s or early 80s at the latest. (I don't feel old enough to be calling these "vintage" but I think that's what they are.)

They're all full of patterns and stitch samples and they're a wonderful resource that really got me going with trying fancy stuff and dreaming big when I started out. I've done ones from the Victorian and Trianglepoint books. There are some inside pics including one with my mom's notes where you can really see the joy of project planning laid out 😭

If you run across any of these used, I'd recommend them all -- or anything by Maggie Lane in particular.
