Before/after: Restored Founders Brazilian Rosewood Credenza

Before/after of a Founders Continuing Design Program Brazilian rosewood credenza.

The fresh new finish really lets the rosewood sing. Brazilian rosewood is truly captivating — full of dramatic grain movement, depth, and natural chatoyance.

I also built a custom base utilizing portions of the original plinth to give the piece a lighter, more architectural stance.

Brazilian rosewood was placed under CITES protection in 1992 due to overharvesting, making vintage examples like this increasingly rare and collectible.

From basement storage unit to statement piece

Before/after of a J.B. Van Sciver mid century walnut wall unit I just finished restoring. The original carved lower doors felt visually heavy, so I reworked them with spline rattan panels to lighten the piece visually and introduce a more natural texture.

The original factory finish was extremely color heavy and obscured much of the walnut’s natural depth and figure. My restoration approach was far more restrained — adding color only where needed while allowing the natural grain, warmth, and chatoyance of the walnut to show through.

Pretty wild how different the piece feels now.
