When we demoed the interior of our house we found this rough cut 2x12 slab wall. Our best guess is these boards were still trees during the civil war given the amount of reused material employed building this house. The goal is to keep it as natural as possible with an oil. I vacuumed it, wire brushed it and will use Murphy's oil soap next.

The real advice is which is the right oil to seal it? Linseed, teak, tung, mineral...?

No sanding will be done as the character must be retained and a poly approach is a hard no.

Rope off the nope stick and wait.

There are zero effective ways to take this down safely. Caution tape, patience and mother nature only. The good news is, it's pointed in the correct direction.
