Hi! I’m not a nurse but I lurk on here bc I find your jobs very interesting.
To start, I have one sister who is a nurse & one who is a biller at different places. My RN sister told me something recently that kind of confused me and concerned me.
She works at a family GP chain in my area. She told me that for a while now she’s being using Epic to look at family member’s charts, estranged friends’ charts, basically anyone at anytime. I wouldn’t be shocked now if she was looking at mine.
That surprised me bc I thought that audits would catch people who did that, but she said there has to be a reason for an audit to be done so she’s fine. My sister who is a biller corroborated this.
I’m a little worried about her losing her job/license for acting like a fool. She also is recently married and a baby on the way so obviously she needs a job.
Is it true that places never do Epic audits unless there are reports? As a non-medical professional I assumed they were done regularly to stay within hipaa.
