So mad!
We just bought home a second boy who was being rehomed. He is so sweet and affectionate already and has come right up for cuddles without any issue. He's even been a perfect gent to our other boy who was a little nervous at first. Honestly couldn't be happier with him.
I'd been speaking to his previous owner for a while and felt pretty comfortable with moving forward. She seemed to be really sad to be rehoming him but explained that she didn't have time to give him enough attention as she had several other cats (non Sphynx), including kittens, and kids to take care of - I thought absolutely fair enough.
The issue is the absolute state he was dropped off to us in - he'd clearly never had his claws cut in his life, they were razor sharp and absolutely caked (like a full, thick layer) in brown gunk. He was pretty dirty all over and had never had a proper bath so he has a little bit of scabbing on his head and neck. The absolute worst part was his poor ears - they had very obviously never been cleaned. I basically removed a full plug of wax from each, which must have been so uncomfortable for him. Despite it being the first time, he managed with all the cleaning so well but was definitely quite stressed. I would have left it longer to build up some trust first, but it legitimately felt cruel to leave him so poorly maintained (luckily a tube treat proved an excellent peace offering)
I just think back to when we got our first and the hours of research I did into how to properly care for a Sphynx and can't imagine having one and assuming they were just like a normal cat? His previous owners clearly loved him but it makes me so sad to see how his needs have been ignored for so long. I appreciate they have a busy life and a lot of other cats but maybe don't get one that is notoriously more high maintenance?
That being said, we now have a beautiful blue eyed elf boy whom we absolutely adore already.
