What should I have done in this situation? (Not important or needing legal help)

Hi. This morning I was walking to the gym from my apartment. While walking to the staircase, and while walking down the staircase, I hear a person on a phone. It sounds like an old lady pissed off (if you’re from the south and know that angry old lady word slurring, that’s what the voice was). I get down the stairs and to the parking lot and realize it’s a drunk as fuck college kid holding what appears to be a white claw while walking to his car and talking to someone on the phone. I shout “hey man you’re not good to drive, dude.” He goes “Huh?” and looks in every direction except mine. I shout “you ain’t good to drive, dude.”

I walk over to him, tell him “you ain’t driving, dude. You gonna kill someone if you try. Imma get you an Uber, you got it? Don’t even fucking try to drive .” I stayed with him until the Uber got there. He wasn’t speaking at that point, just sitting on the concrete ledge and looking like he was gonna cry.

I was talking like a ridiculous person because he was so intoxicated that I didn’t think he would understand sober talk. I almost asked why he was crying but I didn’t wanna open up sad drunk conversations.

Anyway, while I was at the gym I thought to myself “Man I probably just opened up a world of liability just by taking it upon myself to get the dude an Uber” and started hoping he was okay.

Looking back, I thought I probably should have called the police. Should I have just called the police? And would it be the emergency or non emergency line?

My parents were both attorneys so I’m used to trying to think about this kind of stuff from a legal perspective.
