How formal are conference dinners?

Hi everyone, I'll be attending my first conference later this month in Vienna and I was wondering what level of dressing was appropriate for me and my partner?

I would/will ask my supervisor but it's Sunday night atm

Casual fencing in Vienna, Prague, and Helsinki

I'll be in these cities for a few days later this month visiting from Aus and was wondering if any clubs allow casuals to drop in for a session or two?

I likely won't have my kit with me, and I'm not sure what would be the easiest way to pay (presumably cash), so if that makes it too difficult logistically, I get that it may be a no go.

Travelling from Vienna to Prague

Hi everyone, I'll be attending a conference in Vienna in July and using the opportunity to explore Europe (coming from Australia) a little. The first stop is Prague, and I'm wondering how best to travel. Most options I've seen have either been discussed as scams (rail ninja and rail Europe) that just mark up your ticket massively, or service has gone down hill recently (a post from 2yrs ago recommended regiojet quite highly but recent reviews have been scathing). So if anyone can give up to date recommendations, that would be great, as well as any recommendations on places to stay

Encountering adaption problems

I think I’m encountering the practical difference between the story of a novel and the story of a DnD campaign. Compounded by the fact this is my first time DM’ing, I’m making it all up as I go along, and it was only ever meant to be one-shot. A snap shot of what’s unfolded is the setting is a la fallout; world powers develop the magical equivalent of nuclear bombs (which I called solarium bombs cos ya know, power of the sun and all) and annihilation ensues, from here society rebuilds fragile in islands of undestroyed areas nestled amongst regions of necrosis (radiation) in what was once a mega city. In this setting an order has arisen similar to the brotherhood of steel, who view magic as their exclusive purview (this was just a throwaway detail of a player’s backstory that has become pivotal). The 1^(st) session was just supposed to be a one-shot, the charismatic leader of one of these settlements wants the party to create a better map to another place and track down the first team he sent.

The 2^(nd), I borrowed from “I have no mouth and I must scream” with A.M where a group of scientists who went to ground when the bombs fell decided to continue their work creating a soul that lacks the physical senses to enjoy the reality it’s able to perceive and goes insane.

The 3^(rd) session (and main story I’d like to tell) drew from metro 2033. If you’ve read it I’d like to combine the dark ones and the entity found at the Kremlin, and the use of missiles to destroy them (an undetonated solarium bomb in this instance). Using the bomb will have collateral damage and deaths but will save the grater society, I’m trying to go for a “needs of the many”/trolley problem vibe. But IDK if the malevolent hivemind intelligence is too similar the A.M story. I’d also like to use the theme of the religion of the worms as the order who wants to control magic and split it in two: the fanatics and the realists who understand the need to use the bomb and work a version of the priests speech in.

Some advice I’d love is, should i abandon this idea?

how to convey to the players that this is an existential threat so when the time comes it’s not an easy decision?

Is it better if I don’t explain the origins of the ooze? (I unintentionally set up the possibility of a wizard who could have been trying to invent SPF 10billion that got out of hand, but that also feels too similar to the A.M plot)

How can I convey the terror of the tunnels?

I also don’t know if I should do away with the original team as IDK how to work them in but the players keep asking about them
