Looking to transition into a GIS based career as a geologist

Hello! I’m sure this question has been over asked, but I have a varied background and would love some guidance.

I worked as a field geologist for 2 years in a private geotechnical firm. I liked the work I did in office, but field work became far too taxing on my body and I was diagnosed with a chronic illness that makes travel hard. I was looking to move more towards in-office positions, even more so focused on environmental. GIS is a beyond helpful skill set in geo (obviously) and I have never taken the time to learn it, but I have always wanted to. How would current professionals recommend a job transition like this? I am taking a lot of the free arcGIS courses online through ERSI, and was thinking about taking some of the technical exams, but I’m not sure if employers even care for something like that or if it’s a waste of money.

Any and all advice is appreciated!

▲ 3 r/prozac+1 crossposts

I started taking 30 mg of Prozac two days ago and noticed a big jump in shortness of breath. I could fully be making it up and it just be anxiety from changing my meds. Went to the emergency room last night for chest tightness and not being able to get a full breath, but feeling okay otherwise. They gave me hydroxyzine, which helps me (I’m allergic to benzos. I’m one of the people who react worse to them instead of calming down!). It helped, but once I got home I needed to take more to fall asleep.

Fast forward to the next day and I am still having a hard time breathing and I cannot stop hyper-fixating on it. I saw my doctor, and he thinks the Prozac could have exacerbated some underlying condition. He gave me an albuterol inhaler to try while we try and figure out the medication issues, just to ensure it’s not lung related. All my tests, EKG’s, etc came back perfect. Like, I’m freakishly normal in all areas.

We decided I’m going to try and continue the Prozac for the next 10 days until my next appointment, but at a lower dose. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? I’m terrified + now worry about taking hydroxyzine as I fear it will interact with the albuterol.
