First-time parents in Ontario/Canada — who takes care of mother & newborn after delivery?

Hi everyone, we are first-time parents and trying to understand the process after delivery in Ontario, Canada.

I currently have Dr. Fiona McConville as my OB and will be delivering at Lakeridge Health Ajax.

After the baby is born, does the hospital guide us on newborn care before discharge? Also, who usually follows the baby after delivery — OB, pediatrician, or family doctor?

Until when does the OB continue supporting the mother after delivery? Is it only until the 6-week postpartum checkup?

I also wanted to understand breastfeeding support. Does the hospital help with breastfeeding, latching, milk supply, pumping, etc. while admitted? If breastfeeding issues continue after discharge, whom do we usually contact — OB, family doctor, pediatrician, lactation consultant, or public health nurse?

Do we need to book a newborn appointment with our family doctor in advance, or does the hospital arrange it?

Would really appreciate if anyone can share their experience/process at Lakeridge Ajax.

Thanks!

Ajax Lakeridge Labor and delivery

Does anyone know where the Labor & Delivery ward is located at Ajax Lakeridge Hospital?

I’m trying to book a hospital tour but haven’t had any luck so far.

Hello, I already have a family doctor in Ajax and I’m expecting my baby in June. Do I need to register my baby with my family doctor, or will they automatically take my baby as a patient?”
