Graduation Day and a PB, but…

…still not doing 5k. I’ll continue to try to get there even if I have to include a longer walk at either end. I did it once this week but only because I got lost lol

Shoulder Pain. How Weird!

So, running is the only exercise I'm doing at this point, and always with a rest day in between. I took a week off, and resumed my run on Wednesday of this week. Today, it was pouring rain so I decided to skip it. But I've got some nasty shoulder pain and couldn't figure out where it came from, until I checked with Dr. Google and saw that it can be from RUNNING, if I'm too tense or hunched in the shoulders?

It's pretty nasty, and Naproxen hasn't done anything. I used the TENS machine on it and now I'm wrapped in a heating pad. If it's not better by Monday I'll go to the physio.

Anyone else experience shoulder pain from running?

W7D3 (Zenlabs version) with Strava to capture the whole thing

Super proud of myself that I can run for 25 minutes straight now! The weather was more typical Amsterdam so it would have been easy to blow it off. But I took a week off and I was determined to run today no matter what. I only have three more runs using the Zenlabs app and then I will just use Strava and keep going until I can get to 5k. September is my goal (for my 71st birthday)

What's the Difference Between the C25K app and the NHS one?

I'm in the Netherlands, so I can't get the NHS one, but I'm curious about the difference. The C25K app I use is an 8 week thing, and it seems the NHS is 10 weeks? Is that right?

I just took a week off because we drove to France and it just wasn't conducive to keeping to my schedule, but I'm back home and starting again tomorrow with W7D2.

When I first installed it, it automatically imported my previous runs. But now it only captures Apple Fitness activity (like my post-run walk home). I thought maybe I had to use C25K on my watch in order for it to work, but I did that today and it didn’t sync over to Strava. What am I missing?

First of all, I did it. That's the good news. But for the first time since I started to slow way down, I struggled and didn't feel great when I finished. (Ok, I felt great THAT I finished lol). Here's what changed:

Normally, I run in the morning around 9:30 after I've had coffee, but nothing to eat. Now that it's warming up, it's also better because it's cooler. I'm super-sensitive to the heat.

Today, they were removing scaffolding outside our building and it was pretty unsafe to go out there until the workers broke for lunch. Because I had to wait, I ate a banana with peanut butter about an hour before I left, which ended up being 1pm. It was super windy (it's Amsterdam, afterall) which is always harder, but mostly it was a bit too warm for me (20C) and I felt like I had a full belly. When I finished, I had to sit down after the cooldown which I NEVER EVER do, because I felt a bit dizzy and nauseated. I have a Camelbak so I do drink on my runs. Have to.

I had also been sick from Sunday until Tuesday with a head cold, so I didn't do my normal M/W/F schedule. I did nothing until today.

So, the moral of my tale, for me anyway, is not to break my routine if I can help it. I know people recommend eating before running but I don't like how that feels. And I need to avoid the heat at all costs as spring and summer kick in. Thanks for coming to my TED talk 😃
