Tatsumi Fujinami (NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion/IWGP Heavyweight Champion) vs Ric Flair (WCW Heavyweight Champion) [SuperBrawl]

In one of the greatest retcons in professional wrestling history, the NWA World’s and WCW titles were on the line. Fujinami was recognized by NJPW as being the NWA World’s champion by defeating Flair a month earlier. WCW ignored the NWA implications, and considered Flair to have still been undisputed world champion. The NWA (and WWE) subsequently agreed with NJPW and recognize Fujinami as the NWA World’s champion going into this match.

The dispute is temporarily resolved by the result of this match. The IWGP title was not on the line.

NWA New Zealand Pro Wrestling Association - The Main Event episode 1 (5/18/90)

The debut episode of NWA New Zealand’s The Main Event. New Zealand promoter Steve Rickard was the only standing member of the NWA with television in 1990 aside from Don Owen’s Portland Wrestling and WCW (who were using consultant Jim Crockett’s membership via proxy.)

While not as successful as Rickard’s previous NWA TV show On the Mat (1975-1984), The Main Event ran for eleven episodes.

In spite of NWA membership and sanction, most of the talent was booked from Dusty Rhodes’ Florida-based PWF.
