Humming Man - history of live versions
as a lot of people seems to be wondering about that song live, here's a little history of live performances :)
that's a song that gets rearranged at almost every tour era, which imo makes it always extra special and always a song I look forward to live!
- 2018 - Very stripped down, when they were only 4 on stage, I still think it's a very cute version
- 2019 - A bit fuller now that they are 5 on stage, but still without the outro with all the effects
- 2021 - (proshot) We are starting to get the atmospheric outro, one of my fave versions
- 2023 - (proshot) The version with Jessy making all the space noises during the outro, I remember I was absolutely speechless when I first heard this version.
- 2025 - A version with Emma singing "I saw you moan" during the outro, which she doesn't always do. Jessy also didn't need to tweak with his pedalboard anymore since they added a H90 I believe (pedal nerds please feel free to correct me).
- 2026 - (proshot) I also love what Jessy does on the guitar as they start the outro to the point where I preferred the 2025-2026 version over the 2023 :')
- 2026 - Bonus version, Emma adding little adlibs at the end, which made it hauntingly beautiful
It's interesting to note that it's also the first song for which they officially had Emma and Odile as band members.
To me, that song is always one of the main highlights of their set, it's such an unique, ethereal song and the fact that it's so different from the studio version, and simply a less-known song of their discography, always adds a layer of surprise and wonder for most of the audience. There were actually discussions about whether removing or keeping that song live, some members do love playing it (Eric their live drummer actually improvises the ending pattern every time), so I hope it will stay a staple of theirs for a very long time :)
