NOS favorable ~1 hour after Embassy sent it (didn’t expect this at all)

Sharing my husband’s J-1 waiver (No Objection Statement) timeline because this was insanely fast. (Among 75 countries + Government funding from home country + Not Fulbright)

Timeline:

  • March 18: Package delivered
  • April 10: DOS portal updated to “Received”
  • May 15 – 10:54 AM: Embassy sent NOS
  • May 15 – 11:57 AM: DOS sent favorable recommendation via email

No RFE — used I-140 approval (dependent) as supporting document.

Yes, literally about 1 hour after DOS received the NOS.

Did not expect it to move this fast at all. Hope this helps anyone waiting!

For reference, advisory opinion timeline was also quick: sent around March 12 → follow-up April 20 → got result April 21.

Sharing my timeline since posts like these helped me stay sane while waiting.
This is a NOS-based waiver (government-funded program from my home country, not Fullbright).

  • Dec 4, 2025 – Package sent
  • Jan 5, 2026 – Case showed up in system (only after I followed up by email)
  • Apr 5, 2026 – NOS received by DOS from embassy
  • Apr 7, 2026 – RFE issued
  • Apr 7, 2026 – RFE response submitted same day (EB2 NIW approval notice + employment letter)
  • Apr 8, 2026 – DOS Favorable Recommendation
  • Apr 10, 2026 – USCIS receipt notice
  • Apr 24, 2026 – USCIS approval

Felt quiet for a long time, then everything moved very fast once NOS arrived.

Good luck!
