Defeated by a francesinha yet again - Madeira Patisserie / Madeira Cafe, Albert Embankment

I'm not sure exactly what the name of this place is. The menu says Madeira Cafe, the google maps listing says Madeira Patisserie.

In any case it's one of three businesses all in a row - a restaurant, a cafe, and a deli - all named Madeira and presumably all owned by the same people.

I have it on good authority (this sub) that there are better francesinhas out there, but this one is pretty good.

I am yet to finish one of these, three layers of bread, fries, loads of meat, cheese and a very rich sauce. I find it a significant undertaking that could probably feed 2 people.

This was £15. They have fancier fare in the restaurant next door for £20-30 a plate. We aim to get to the restaurant some time soon too, maybe to try their bacalhaus.

We popped in the deli after to pick up some pastel de nata (or pastéis de nata?)

Double carbs, Soul Stop, South Woodford. £9.50

Nice local cafe, I pay it a visit on the weekends I don't fancy a longer trek.

Lasagne, chips, salad and pickled cabbage

The Greggs Chicken roll (left). Regular sausage roll for comparison

Good colour on the outside, squishy and mushy on the inside (not unlike today's sausage roll in that respect).

Bland and inoffensive, notes of chicken.

The Greggs website says it's seasoned but it clearly needs more. Would probably benefit from being more like a chicken seekh kebab in pastry, or at least having some other additional flavours.

Not as good as the sausage roll for Greggs cylindrical bakes, not as good as the chicken bake for Greggs Chicken snacks.

5/10, would probably eat again but I'll eat most things.

Lahpet, Shoreditch. Could have eaten 10 of those lamb chops

Delicious lunch, and to answer a question on the sub from earlier today, good hot weather food.

Seik thar (lamb & lahpet), Lahpet thoke (tea leaf salad), A-kyaw (sweetcorn fritter). Had a paratha on the side and we had two glasses of very welcome house iced tea.

This place has been on our list for a while - it's got a bunch of honorable mentions in this sub and had a decent nod in Vittles too.

At about £60 it was a case of quality over quantity, but it was really well put together. I'll be lying in bed thinking about that lamb tonight when it's too hot to sleep.

I blooming love Queensway Market, the first Uzbek food I ever had was at Uzbek Corner - we'd planned to go to Abu Maher but that looked sorta closed when we turned up. The guy at Uzbek Corner said it might be 45 minutes before a table came up but that also one of the things we'd ordered might take about the same time

He took our order and was happy for us to wander off on trust.

Cham Kampung Boy manages an insane/loved Instagram and they serve food to match, and Normah's pushes the title for one of the best Malaysian places in London.

One of the things we can do to support the places we love is spend money with them.

There's a bit more from vittles here: https://open.substack.com/pub/vittles/p/once-queensway-market-is-gone-there?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=android&r=1epco
