Can we use health insurance for LASIK after 7–8 months?
My brother is 22M, currently unemployed, and does not have health insurance. He wants to undergo LASIK surgery for both eyes, and the hospital has quoted around ₹1.5 lakh.
The surgery is not urgent, and we are planning to do it 7–8 months from now. So, we are thinking of buying health insurance now and using it for the surgery later.
I would like some advice from people who have actually used insurance for LASIK:
Which health insurance policies in India cover LASIK?
Is there any policy with a waiting period of 7–8 months or less?
Does the insurance require a particular eye power/dioptre level for coverage?
How much of the ₹1.5 lakh could typically be covered?
Are there any sub-limits, co-payments or exclusions we should know about?
Would a normal health insurance policy cover it, or do we need a specific add-on/rider?
Can we buy the policy now even though we already know that he plans to have LASIK later?
Will the insurer consider LASIK an elective procedure and reject the claim?
Has anyone here actually had their LASIK claim approved? Which insurer and policy was it?
Is there anything specific we should check in the policy document before purchasing?
We also want the policy for his general medical needs, not just LASIK. So any good and reasonably priced policy that provides genuine LASIK coverage would be helpful.
Thanks in advance!
