6 months later it hasn't clicked i *survived* something
6 months ago today I was in the ER for a pulmonary embolism with infarction. Every professional I saw said one of two things: "You were incredibly lucky," and "you're very young." I'm turning 25 soon and I think a lot about how much life I could've missed out on if I hadn't received the care that I did. But on the other hand it still doesn't feel like it happened to me, y'know? I remember not having much of a reaction to my diagnosis, and to this day I feel the weight of what I was told eludes me.
The only person who came to visit me in the hospital was my boyfriend, and even then he was only there for a few hours. I slept for most of it because I wasn't able to lay down comfortably until I got to the hospital. It was and still has been an isolating experience. I know I'm very fortunate for the worst part of my experience to be thinking about it, but does anyone have any advice on how to process the event and move on?
